This course aims to increase the efficacy of professionals in volunteer engagement through practice and application by effectively implementing the concepts of Volunteer Management Toolkit (VMT) and applying the volunteer management best practices at their workplace through a blend of online, experiential and workplace learning. Adopting a “learning by doing” approach, learners will get to improve their competencies and proficiency in managing and collaborating with volunteers for their respective Social Service Agencies (SSAs) to achieve the agency’s mission and maximise the potential of volunteers.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
1. Describe the impacts and implications of volunteer management issues in non-profit organisations
2. Use tools and templates from the Volunteer Management Toolkit (VMT) to resolve volunteer management issues in non-profit organisations
3. Apply key volunteer management practices from the VMT to enhance non-profit organisation’s overall volunteer management practice
Target audience includes:
• All volunteer executive and managers with at least 3 months of volunteer management experience and have completed all the SEVEN (7) e-learning modules before the 1st F2F workshop.
Moy Yin has a Masters of Arts in Education and Human Resource Development with the George Washington University. She graduated from the National University of Singapore and has a Diploma in Human Resource Development (Gold Medal) from the Singapore Institute of Management. In 2019, she completed the Specialist Diploma in Career Counselling from Republic Polytechnic.
Moy Yin has more than 16 years of experience in Human Resources specialising in unpaid workforce management, i.e. volunteer management. Her expertise is in strategic workforce management, learning & development, performance management and coaching, workforce motivation and leadership development. With her extensive knowledge and experience in Human Resource Development, Moy Yin provided consultancy services for the Singapore Sports Council (SSC), which organises the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon in 2003, 2004 and 2007. Moy Yin designed the volunteer management processes, which enables SSC to mobilise and manage 3000 volunteers efficiently in the Singapore Marathon. She also created the volunteer management framework for the 117th International Olympics Committee Session held in Singapore, July 2005.Her experience and expertise has led her to provide volunteer management consultancy for the National Arts Council, which organised the inaugural contemporary art exhibition Singapore Biennale 2006. She was the volunteer management consultant for Singapore Biennale 2008 which engaged more than 600 volunteers. Moy Yin was engaged as the volunteer management consultant for Singapore Biennale 2011 which was organised by the Singapore Arts Museum. This was her third consecutive appointment with the Singapore Biennale.
From 2004-2008, Moy Yin was a trainer in volunteer management with the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre. She studied the learning and development needs of volunteer managers in the non-profit sector and developed training curriculum to equip them professionally. With NVPC, she has trained more than 600 staff from non-profit organisations and corporations in volunteer management, enabling their organisations to manage volunteers in a professional and strategic way. To professionalise the position of volunteer programme managers in Singapore, Moy Yin cofounded MOVE (Managing & Organising Volunteer Efforts) in 2006, the national professional body for volunteer programme managers. She was the Vice-chairman till 2016. Moy Yin is a certified Extended-DISC Behavioural Consultant. She is also a certified Action Learning Coach by the World Institute of Action Learning, U.S. She is effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin.
This course will be spread across 3.5 months with a total of 23 hrs of direct learning, which includes 1 hour of on-the-job training where team coaching of up to 5 participants per group will take place.
Learners must submit a Reflective Journal with evidences of application of tools from VMT to be within 2-weeks after the end of facilitated classroom training. Learners also have to reflect on their workplace volunteer management practices and work on solutioning within the parameters of the programme objectives to address a workplace challenge. Learners need to decode and crystallise the adopted approaches or practices in the journal for facilitator to assess their proficiency. Assessor will follow-up with the learners via email or telephone to address any performance gap in the journal.
