This course includes information to meet the educational needs of facility management professionals required to develop new facilities in the non-profit sector. The program will be grounded in the concepts that explain the importance of a work unit, a team, or an individual responsible for developing new facilities of an organisation. The primary focus is to interpret various aspects and phases of new facilities development.
Target audience are managers and leaders who need to develop or oversee development of new facilities and manage the requirements of various stakeholders involved, including government agencies. Learners are assumed to possess an English Language (speaking, reading, writing and listening) proficiency level equivalent to GCE ‘O’ level or Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the need for planning in setting up facilities
2. Distinguish the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders
3. Explain the role of the relevant government departments
4. Interpret the various development phases in facilities development
5. Determine the legal aspects of facilities development
Mode of delivery:
Please note that this course will be conducted online via Zoom (click to learn more about Zoom). Successful applicants will be able to access and download course materials from LearningCloud upon course confirmation. They will also be given the URL to join the Zoom course session with a unique password via email. Participants will be required to use their Name (as per NRIC) as the Zoom ID to be given access to the Zoom course session and will have to enable video view while the session is in progress.
As part of SSG's requirements, the training session(s) will be recorded for audit purposes. Please ensure that your camera is turned on throughout the session(s). By agreeing to attend this course, you are deemed to have consented for your participation to be recorded.
Assessment will face-to-face held at SSI Successful applicants are required to sit for the assessment on a separate day, to be further advised by SSI.
This course includes assessment components. Assessment may be conducted during and/or after the course. As there is an assessment component for this course, grading and processing of results can only take place after course completion. Learners who pass the assessment(s) will be awarded with an electronic Certificate of Achievement from SSI. You will receive an email notification when your e-Cert is ready for download in your NCSS e-Services account.

Mr Gilbert Hu is currently the Deputy Director in the Facilities Branch of the Ministry of Social and Family Development. A registered Architect, he has over 36 years of work experience in the Building and Construction Industry in the various fields of Architecture, Planning and Urban Design, Resort Planning, Estate Management, Facilities Management and Education. He has also 18 years of teaching experience in the Singapore Polytechnic as a part-time lecturer.
Gilbert has a Master in Building Science and Bachelor of Architecture (with Honours) degrees. Besides being awarded a government scholarship to study Architecture, he had also been awarded the US-ASEAN Human Resources Development Scholarship. He is a certified Green Mark Facilities Manager and also a certified Universal Design Assessor.
He is a passionate trainer and enjoys imparting his knowledge and work experiences to people who yearn to learn more of the very complex nature of the construction and facilities management processes.
