Target Participants:

This course is targeted for people who are already working or may be entering the Community and Social Services environment in the elderly sector. It is appropriate for people with job titles such as:
- Activities Officer
- Assistant Welfare Officer
- Community Development Assistant
- Personal Care Attendant
- Social Work Aide
- Social Work Assistant

The programme may be suitable for aspirants whose performance requires these attributes, knowledge and skills

Assumed Skills and Knowledge

In order to fully participate in this programme, learners are assumed to be able to:
- Understand and apply the Workplace Safety and Health Act 2006.
- Understand principles and practices of client services as it applies to the Community and Social Services Sector
- Understand services and capacities of the workplace
- Understand the range of client needs that may present at the organisation
- Understand the range of services offered by related community groups and volunteers
- Know and be able to use standard Community and Social Services sector terminology
- Structure and components of a limited range of workplace documents including a client profile and a client delivery service plan
- Be able to listen and speaking English at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability
- Skills System (ESS) Literacy Level 4
- Be able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills System (ESS) Literacy Level 4
- Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills System (ESS) Numeracy Level 4
- Have basic languages / dialects relvant to the client target group
- Have first aid skills
- Have Information Communications Technology (ICT) skills

Learning Outcome:

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills to effectively perform and transfer the learning acquired to their workplace which includes:
- Assist with client intake procedures
- Communicate with people from diverse backgrounds
- Identify client needs


Assessment and Award:
Participants will be required to undergo assessments during the course.

For this module, participants will be assessed on their understanding of working with clients effectively through the following:
- Individual Written assessment
- Individual Practical Performance
- Individual Oral Questioning
- Assessor Feedback
