Overview:

Volunteers do come with certain costs... they do require other resources such as space, staff time, out-of-pocket reimbursements and appreciation. Leadership buy-in is essential to put aside the necessary resources for volunteer management. Any organisation that runs with the help of volunteers needs to keep their morale high. The module equips the learner with knowledge and skills to institute volunteer management system at their agencies for effective management of volunteers. Learners will also learn about the roles of volunteer managers and coordinators.

Target Participants:

Target audience includes all professionals who work with volunteers such as volunteer coordinators, volunteer managers, head of programmes, head of operations etc. The skills and knowledge for this course, which the learner is assumed to possess, are as follows:
- Be able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6
- Be able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6
- Be able to use numeracy skills equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 6

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the role of a volunteer manager
2. Explain the importance of a volunteer management system
3. Explain the key features of a VMS

Remarks:

This course includes assessment components.
Assessment may be conducted during and/or after the course. As there is an assessment component for this course, grading and processing of results can only take place after course completion. Learners who pass the assessment(s) will be awarded with a Certificate of Achievement from SSI. Your Certificate will only be ready for collection from SSI approximately 4 weeks from the end of the course.

Trainer Profile:

Ms Anne Marie Gutierrez holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Political Science from the University of Hong Kong. She currently trains on Volunteerism and Social Policy at the NUS-YMCA-Citibank Youth for Causes Programme. In addition, Ms Gutierrez lectures in the area of Counselling, Volunteer Management, Educational Psychology, Community Services Management and Business Communications in local polytechnics. She also serves as a volunteer in several Family Service Centres and schools.
