This course is an accompaniment to the 2D Arts Expression guidebook that will be given out to each participant after the completion of the course. This toolkit guides facilitators on basic art making techniques such as printing, collage and straw painting. Participants will experience hands on learning with 2D arts projects that they could implement within their workplaces. Participants will also create a course involving the use of various activities that they had learned within the course.
Programme executives, social workers, counsellors, centre managers, special education teachers, therapists, therapy aides and other professionals working with elderly, children or clients with disability.
Learners are assumed to possess an English Language (speaking, reading, writing and listening) proficiency level equivalent to:
- GCE ‘O’ level OR
- Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Explain how a 2D Arts programme benefits the physical and mental well-being of clients
2. Prepare a 2D Arts programme involving the use of project ideas within the 2D Arts toolkit
3. Adapt the 2D Arts programme to different client profiles with physical and cognitive challenges
This course includes assessment components. Assessment may be conducted during and/or after the course. As there is an assessment component for this course, grading and processing of results can only take place after course completion.
Learners who pass the assessment(s) will be awarded with an electronic Certificate of Achievement from SSI. You will receive an email notification when your e-Cert is ready for download in your NCSS e-Services account.

Foo Kwee Horng is a visual artist with more than 15 years experience as a full-time art teacher in the education sector. Trained as a social worker, he has more recently been working with various Voluntary Welfare Organisations that serve the elderly, children with learning disabilities, and youths at-risk to run programmes, and train other social service practitioners to conduct basic arts programmes for their clients.
