Overview:

-Assessment of client's status, condition and needs for participation in group activity or recreation programme
- Barriers to participation and develop effective intervention measures to address them
- Conducting social and recreational activities
- Information collection, report writing and documentation of client participation in accordance with organisational standards
- Seeking, collecting and analysing client feedback on activities

Learning Outcome:

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Plan group activities and recreation programmes
- Conduct group activities and recreation programmes to assist the client to meet physical welfare and social needs
- Review activity or recreation programme

Target Participants:

This course aims to provide people already working or wishing to enter the Community and Social Services environment with the skills and knowledge required to organize and implement group activities and recreation programmes effectively in a setting within the following sub sectors:
- Senior Services
- Therapy Services
- Disability Services

The Competency Unit would be appropriate for people with job titles such as:
- Programme Assistant
- Therapy Assistant
- Senior Home Helper
- Social Work Assistant
- Activity Assistant

Learners are assumed to possess an English Language (speaking, reading, writing and listening) proficiency level equivalent to GCE ‘O’ level or Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6.

Trainer Profile:

Ms Tan Yeh Min holds a Bachelor in Social Sciences (Social Work Honours) from the National University of Singapore. She has an Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) and a WSQ Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (DACE). She was the winner of TSAO Ng Yu Shun Award for Excellence in Ageing Study in 2004. She brings with her diverse experience in the eldercare sector from providing direct services to the seniors , service development of eldercare programmes as well as training and development in courses relevant to the eldercare sector. She is a registered social worker under the Social Work Accreditation and Advisory Board (SWAAB).

Remarks:

Assessment and Award:
Participants will be required to undergo assessment during the course. Assessment could be in the form of role plays and classroom exercises. In addition, each participant will take a 1 hour written assessment at the end of the 2 days of classroom training.Participants who fulfil and successfully completed the assessment criteria will be awarded a Statement of Attainment (SOA) under the Singapore WSQ Community and Social Services Framework by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency for having attained the WSQ National Competency Standards

Mode of delivery:
Blended learning (facilitated classroom training, online course materials and e-learning activities)
Description:
Online course materials: Learners will be required to access the online resources prior to the facilitated classroom training session.
E-Learning activities: Learners will be required to complete e-learning activities at the end of both training days as a recap exercise to the facilitated classroom training.
