The course engages the learner to take a closer look at the roles of a befriender and how to build effective befriending relationship with their clients. Learners will build skills and knowledge necessary to coordinate befriending projects to practice standards. Learners will also reflect on current practices and practical application of knowledge and values gained.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the roles of a befriender
2. Explain the purposes of methods adopted to prevent a communication breakdown
3. Describe the techniques for a befriender to build relationship with his/her clients
Volunteers from the social service organisations who are involved in Befriending work with different groups or would like to become a volunteer and is interested in Befriending.
Ms Alice Tok is a Family Education consultant and trainer with more than 15 years of experience in education and counselling, specialising in children and families. She has an Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Children & Family Education from Edith Cowan University and Masters in Counselling with the University of South Australia.
Over the years, Alice has vast experience in conducting interactive talks/workshops for singles, couples, parents and teachers as a family life resource speaker in various settings. She is also a very experienced counsellor in personal developmental and family-related issues such as parenting and marital issues, both in Singapore and China.
Mode of delivery:
Blended learning (facilitated classroom training and online course materials)
This course includes assessment components. Assessment may be conducted during and/or after the course. As there is an assessment component for this course, grading and processing of results can only take place after course completion. Learners who pass the assessment(s) will be awarded with an electronic Certificate of Achievement from SSI. You will receive an email notification when your e-Cert is ready for download in your NCSS e-Services account.
