The course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills in couple counselling. Specifically, learners will be taught skills in assessing the needs of couples and utilise techniques in helping couples improve their relationship.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Assess state of the couple’s relationship in counselling

2. Interpret the challenges of applying couple counselling

3. Interpret issues facing the couple seeking counselling

4. Propose intervention to address issues facing couples

Target Participants:

All professionals who work with families such as school personnel, medical professionals, social workers, counsellors, welfare officers, police officers etc.

Learners are assumed to possess an English Language (speaking, reading, writing and listening) proficiency level equivalent to:
- GCE ‘O’ level OR
- Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6

Trainer Profile:

Mr Benny Bong, MSW (McGill University),
BA (Arts), is at a private practice for the last thirteen years. Mr Bong is recognised as a Master Social Worker and also sits on a Review Committee with the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Mr Bong was previously a Family and Marital Therapist for nine years and Executive Director for five years at Counselling and Care Centre. He has an extensive training background and is currently an external lecturer with Swinburne University of Technology, National Institute of Education Singapore and an Adjunct Trainer with Social Service Institute.


This course includes assessment components.
Assessment may be conducted during and/or after the course. As there is an assessment component for this course, grading and processing of results can only take place after course completion. Learners who pass the assessment(s) will be awarded with an electronic Certificate of Achievement from SSI. You will receive an email notification when your e-Cert is ready for download in your NCSS e-Services account.

Mode of delivery:
Blended (classroom and online course materials). Learners will receive online access to courseware instead of printed materials.
