The 3-day workshop will equip learners with the dynamics of family violence, an overview of integrated system of managing family violence in Singapore as well as the knowledge and skills in identifying and handling intake sessions with persons facing family violence and the persons who abuse.
Professionals in the field of family violence will be invited to present their experience in the management of family violence.
Please be aware that this "Management of Family Violence: Introduction" course serves as a mandatory pre-requisite to the following courses:
- Management of Family Violence: Intervention in Family Violence Cases
- Management of Family Violence: Understanding Mental Health and Vulnerable Adult Issues in Protection Work
By the end of the course, learners will be able to: 1. Explain the impact of family violence on different members of the family. 2. Explain why violence exists in a family. 3. Relate how beliefs and values of the professionals shape their response towards family violence. 4. Describe the existing systems in Singapore to manage family violence cases.
Target audience includes social work associates / assistants with a minimum of post graduate diploma in social work and currently practising in an FSC or SSA with social work component, social workers, youth workers, school personnel, staff in shelters and children’s homes, welfare officers, health personnel, police officers and any other workers involved in family violence work.
The skills and knowledge for this course, which the learner is assumed to possess, are as follows: • Be able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) Workplace Literacy Level 6. • Be able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) Workplace Literacy Level 6. • Be able manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace (ESS) Numeracy Level 6.
Please note that this course will be conducted online via Zoom (click to learn more about Zoom). Successful applicants will be able to access and download course materials from LearningCloud upon course confirmation. They will also be given the URL to join the Zoom course session with a unique password via email. Participants will be required to use their Name (as per NRIC) as the Zoom ID to be given access to the Zoom course session and will have to enable video view while the session is in progress.
Assessment will be scheduled after COVID-19 Circuit Breaker ends and face-to-face assessment at SSI resumes. Successful applicants are required to sit for the assessment on a separate day, to be further advised by SSI.
This course includes assessment components.
Assessment may be conducted during and/or after the course. As there is an assessment component for this course, grading and processing of results can only take place after course completion. Learners who pass the assessment(s) will be awarded with an electronic Certificate of Achievement from SSI. You will receive an email notification when your e-Cert is ready for download in your NCSS e-Services account.
Mode of delivery:
Blended (online classroom and online course materials). Learners will receive online access to courseware instead of printed materials.
