Overview:

1) Overview of art therapy, what it is and what it is not
2) Different models of art therapy
3) Children’s creative development, such as mark-making
4) Play and the creative process
5) How to facilitate the art therapy programmes
6) Planning an art therapy programme

Learning Outcome:

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
1) Define basic principles and practice of art therapy
2) Develop and implement simple art therapy programmes

Target Participants:

Social workers, psychologists, special education teachers/teacher-aides, and other professionals working with children or young adults with special needs.

Trainer Profile:

Caroline Essame is a British trained Art and Occupational Therapist with over 30 years experience in the field of health, therapy and the arts. She has worked in hospital, school and community settings in England, Malaysia, India, Hong Kong, and Singapore with experience in working in mental health, with the elderly, with people with disabilities, those with drug and alcohol problems and children with special needs. She offers clinical and educational services in Singapore and runs training courses and consultancies in Creative Arts Therapy across Asia.

She designed, wrote and got validated the first Masters in Art Therapy in Asia for Lasalle College of the Arts and has presented papers and workshops at many international conferences over the last 24 years. She runs her own company 'CREATE-CREATIVE ARTS THERAPY AND TRAINING PTE LTD' and holds a Master of Education with a specialization in creativity and learning.

This course includes assessment components.
Assessment may be conducted during and/or after the course. As there is an assessment component for this course, grading and processing of results can only take place after course completion. Learners who pass the assessment(s) will be awarded with an electronic Certificate of Achievement from SSI. You will receive an email notification when your e-Cert is ready for download in your NCSS e-Services account.

E-mode of delivery:
• Learners will receive online access to courseware instead of printed materials
• Learners will complete an online course evaluation and receive e-certificate

Fee Remarks:

SSG funding is available for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

VCF funding is available for foreigners who are staff of member VWOs of NCSS via Direct Training Application.
