Chaoyang School is a special education school catering to students with mild intellectual disability (MID), ranging from 7 to 12 years old. Like other special education schools, the school offers customised educational programmes to develop students’ potentials and to help them be independent, self-reliant and contributing members of the society. The students also receive support from allied health care professionals for their differentiated learning needs and learning preferences. Chaoyang School has its team of support services called the Allied Professionals (AP) which includes psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and social workers. The main role of the APs is to support the students’ learning needs by collaborating closely with the teachers for the facilitation of the students’ holistic development.

About The Role

You shall be responsible for the speech language programme for students and trainees with oral communication challenges including evaluation of all students and trainees with suspected or identified communication disorders and the development, management and coordination of a speech and language programme, including difficulty in swallowing.

Consultation
- Provide professional inputs to support understanding of clients speech, language and communication difficulties to teachers, parents or caregivers, professional staff, administrators and the public.

Assessment
- Provide screening, identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services for students and trainees with speech and language disorders.
- Measure outcomes of treatment and conduct continuous evaluation
- Identify effective practices and programs to improve and enhance quality of services.
- Maintain efficient client records and documentation. i.e. Assessment reports filing in students’ confidential file.

Treatment Strategies
- Implement intervention program based on assessment, interpretation and planning.

Training and Support
- Train and support teachers, caregivers and other communication partners of individuals with speech, language, communication difficulties.
- Mentor and supervise of support personnel.







Candidate Requirements
Technical Competencies:

- Good team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills

Core Competencies:

- Relevant work experience ranging from children to young adults with intellectual disability would be an advantage
- Ability to work with independently and with minimum supervision

Preferred achievements / characteristics:

- Recognized degree in Speech Pathology from accredited college or university with 3 to 5 years speech therapy experience
- Valid practising certificate with Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC)
