About The Role

The Literacy Intervention Teacher helps 4 to 12 year old students cope and remain in mainstream schools, and reduces the risk of juvenile delinquency in their later years. This role is for a committed individual who wants to make a difference in the lives of children and their families through educational intervention programmes for specific learning needs. The key responsibilities are to

Teach primarily using the Orton-Gillingham approach to help bridge the gaps in literacy skills of students with learning needs
Tailor individualised educational plan for each student based on his or her learning challenges
Prepare appropriate teaching resources and materials
Write annual educational progress report for each student
Update parents on their children’s educational progress and to conduct the parent-teacher conference twice a year
Plan and execute Kids Club programmes with other colleagues
Update the Literacy Centre manager on clients progress and development
Collaborate with Psychological Services, Family Welfare and Foster Departments on case management
Handle students administrative matters
Participate as an active team member in department organised activities as well as organisation wide events
Any other assigned duties

Candidate Requirements
Technical Competencies:

• Degree, preferably in psychology, early childhood education or special needs education
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic IT knowledge and skills
• Sound theoretical understanding of child development
• Excellent command of the English language, preferably bilingual

• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to engage and make strong student connections
• Willingness to collaborate with corporate partners such as schools and hospitals

Preferred achievements / characteristics:

• Experience in working with children with special learning needs
