MINDS has been serving persons with intellectual disabilities (PWIDs) across their entire lifespan in the past 59 years. Helping and enhancing the quality of life of 3,000 PWIDs annually, MINDS’ also focuses on care and support of families and caregivers. Today, an 850-strong workforce, with the assistance of volunteers, runs over 30 facilities, services and programmes island-wide.

MINDS has 4 Special Education Schools, 3 Employment Development Centres, 8 Training and Development Centres, a Residential Home for Adults, a Children’s Home, a Hostel, a Caregivers Support Services Centre, a Special Student Care Centre, and a Developmental Disabilities Medical Clinic, as well as numerous other significant services such as Appropriate Adults for Persons with Mental Disabilities (AAPMD), Allied Health Professionals (AHP), Me Too! Club (MTC) and MINDS MYG (a volunteer subsidiary wing of MINDS).
These efforts are supported by MINDS Institute which specialises in the research and development of holistic and sustainable approaches to nurturing and developing PWIDs.

About The Role

Curriculum and instructional excellence
1. Plan engaging and well-paced lessons taking account of the diverse learner profiles of students
2. Deliver lessons using evidence-based pedagogy and meaningful activities to meet the educational needs of individual students
3. Implement appropriate modes of assessment to monitor student progress by providing accurate feedback, and implement suitable instructional supports to close gaps

Holistic student development
1. Build a strong relationship with students by demonstrating care, concern and encouragement
2. Formulate data-based, student-centered IEP and ITP process for all students, and support their attainment of IEP and ITP goals through appropriate strategies implemented in partnerships with families, caregivers, Allied Professionals and other relevant stakeholders
3. Design and implement positive, robust classroom routines and practices to create and maintain a safe and conducive learning environment as well as foster student development and well-being
4. Implement techniques and behaviour plans to manage students with complex and challenging behaviours
5. Manage emergency situations to resolve any immediate safety concerns and implement required school processes

Professional development
1. Proactively engage in professional development for knowledge and skills development
2. Participate in professional learning teams to foster collaborative learning between staff members

Candidate Requirements
Technical Competencies:

• GCE ’A’ Levels or Diploma or Degree in any discipline or Diploma in Autism, Education or Special Education.
• Relevant experience in teaching special needs students will be an advantage.

Core Competencies:

• Passionate about each child personal growth and open to new and innovative methods of teaching.
• Able to work with children or youth ranging from 6 – 18 years of age with one or more learning difficulties
• Able to work in a team with social workers, therapist and other teaching colleagues.
